On Wednesday (5/27), 27-year-old Charnice Milton lost her life to a senseless act of violence.

The DC reporter was shot while waiting for the bus, after a leaving a business meeting at work. According to the Washington Post, a gunman drove by on a motorcycle and fired several shots in the air. One of the stray bullets hit Charnice, an unintentional victim.

Charnice’s father told my Fox DC,

She had her own condition of Asperger’s and it was presumed because of her special condition, she would never excel and never achieve any great feat. Yet watching our daughter walk across the stage at Bishop McNamara High School with honors, then going to Ball State and graduating with honors, then graduating at Syracuse with honors, and then staying here in Southeast Washington D.C., when she could have gone anywhere.”

“What we do know is that out of cowardice, a young man grabbed my daughter and put [her] between the bullet and his life, We miss our daughter. We hurt that she is no longer with us it. But we also know that she is at a peaceful place.”

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser also stated,  We know that people were in and around the area. We have gotten very little information and we need the public to provide that information so Charnice’s killer can be captured.

Charnice’s death marked day 6, in a chilling new trend. 6 people have been killed in 6 days across the District of Columbia.

Our prayers are with the family of Charnice.
