Baltimore Police Union Says Officers Are Scared To Do Their Job

As the month of May comes to end, it marks the end of the most violent month, for the city of Baltimore in 15 years. According to the Associated Press, police statistics show there have been 111 homicides since January 2015, 32 more than last year.

Reports claim the new hike in violence came from the protests surrounding Freddie Gray. Now, the police union is claiming, police officers in Baltimore are “afraid of going to jail for doing their jobs.” In a statement released via twitter, the union says,

However, many civil rights activist do not believe the police union for one second. DeRay McKesson, told Buzzfeed News,

With the latest [Fraternal Order of Police] statement, Baltimore police aim to instill fear into citizens to gain support. Today, Baltimore police reminded us that they aim only to protect and serve their selfish interests and not the interests of public safety or the public good.”
