Donate To Geto Boys’ Kickstarter Album Campaign And Receive A Personalized Casket

Geto Boys

Houston rap group Geto Boys, known for their political and controversial songs from the 90s, plans to release an album bringing their 10-year hiatus to an end. After dropping their 2005 album, The Foundation, the group’s three members (Scarface, Willie D and Bushwick Bill) went their separate ways with the occasional reunions and tour. Now following the trend of their industry peers (TLC and De La Soul), the group has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their latest record and protect their creative control over it.

Member Willie D told Rolling Stone, “We’re gonna go the f*ck off on the new album. If it scared David Geffen back in 1990, it’s gonna ruffle a few feathers in 2015.” The album will be called Habeas Corpus.

The Geto Boys plan to release their new album in the fall and it will be produced by Mike Dean, Tone Capone, N.O. Joe, Scarface and Willie D. Ice Cube is said to make a feature on the album, as well. Of the campaign, The Geto Boys told donors:

For the past 9 years, our fans have been pleading with us to drop one more album, and we’ve been having light and sometimes heavy talks about getting back in the studio. Since we’ve been independent for going on a decade now, and we are not signed to a major label, we need your help funding the project. We thought long and hard about how we wanted to go about creating the album, and concluded that crowdfunding would be the best way to go because it allows us to cut out the middleman by dealing directly with our fans, and most importantly we can make the kind of music we want to make without having a label censor our message. That’s what hip hop is all about. Being independent and free to express yourself without restrictions. So you say you want that real shit? Well let’s see.”

If you donate to their campaign, plan to receive interesting keepsakes. For example, if you pledge $10,000 you will receive a personalized Geto Boys casket for your funeral. Lower donations get you a day of bar hopping with Bushwick Bill or even a party hosted by Willie D with a brand endorsement.
