When asked how she felt about possibly making Emmys history last night, Kerry Washington, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, told Shaun Robinson that Mike Brown’s funeral being held yesterday made things a little complicated for her.

“I don’t think about it that much. You know, this has been a really complicated day for me. I started the day watching the funeral services for Michael Brown. And so it’s a lot to wrap your head around being an African American in this country right now.”

Earlier that day, Kerry also took to Twitter where she expressed sadness while watching Michael’s funeral.

“What’s happening in #Ferguson is devastating. Wow,” she also tweeted earlier this month.

Kerry is one of many celebrities to come forward to speak about Mike’s untimely passing. Sunday night at the MTV VMAs, rapper Common also called for a moment of silence to acknowledge the tragedy.
