Earlier this month, news outlets around the world were reporting that former “Star Trek” actress Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura on the show, suffered from a stroke. Being that Nichols is 82-years-old, the news scared some of us.

But less than two weeks after the ordeal, Nichols is not only feeling better, she sat down for an interview with “Entertainment Tonight.”

She told “ET” correspondent Nischelle Turner that she’s “feeling the best I’ve ever felt in a very long time.”

And she even explained how she was able to bounce back so quickly.

“I have this thing about so-called sickness. I can’t say it about everything, about every sickness but I’ve always felt from a little girl, if you deny it, it’ll go away. And it does.” Laughs

Turner wanted to know if the sickness had affected her mobility.

“Not at all, I’m as wild and woolly as I’ve ever been.”

As for the stroke itself, Nichols says she doesn’t remember much about it, including who called the ambulance to help her when she suffered from the stroke on Wednesday, June 3.

Turner concluded, simply, that Nichols is a fighter.

“Oh yeah, I’m a fighter. Don’t be messing with my game. My game is my career.”

Go ‘head Mama Nichelle! As someone who likes to deny (and rebuke…for my church folks) my colds, it’s nice to know that the mind is powerful enough to take on a stroke as well. A lot of times we’re more powerful than we believe.

Glad to see she’s doing so well. And we’re hoping she has more years to do the work she’s still so passionate about.
