As someone with a history of acne problems, I’m not one to mess with a large amount of makeup that often. I may clean up my brow and put on some mascara here and there, but I’ve left the products that make my skin feel like it’s wearing a mask at the bottom of the container in my bathroom. But now and then I get gussied up for date night, and when I return to my domicile, I want a quick fix to get it all off my face. And while I’m tempted just to go to bed with my face looking like Meryl Streep in Death Becomes Her, I try to use my face wash or apply my makeup remover wipes and go to sleep. But afterward, I can’t help but feel like my face is dried out and gasping for moisture. And even then, when I apply a facial lotion (I won’t name any names and put anyone on blast), I wake up in the morning feeling greasy. I go from one extreme to another. So where is the middle ground?
I think I’ve finally found it! I was able to try CLEANSE by LAUREN NAPIER, individually packaged facial cleansing wipes that remove makeup and a whole host of impurities from your skin. And even though I was initially skeptical about them, they are the real deal, Holyfield.
With their natural ingredients, including water, aloe, camomilla and cucumber, the wipes hydrate your skin rather than stifle it. Plus, the cloths are made of cotton, so they don’t tear up on your face as you rub away that foundation, that eyeshadow, and whatever else you piled on in the morning. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my skin felt rejuvenated and moisturized after using the wipes, and the feeling stayed throughout the night.
And we must discuss how convenient these little buggers are. The fact that they are individually packaged and both small and easy enough to carry with you everywhere allows you to use them wherever, whenever, without having to worry about the wipes drying out. Throw them in your purse and pull them out when your skin is begging for relief.
For me, these wipes are a must for the woman who loves to get dolled up with a full face of makeup, but who hates taking it off at night. And yet, they’re also a must for the woman who just needs to refresh a tired face after a long day. It works for my oily skin, and it also works on dry skin, which, according to Napier, she has.
I talked with Napier about her cleansing wipes and how she came up with the idea for them.
“I came up with the concept as I was traveling,” said Napier, a New York native and celebrity makeup artist. “I was traveling on a plane and it was international. I was coming from Austrailia to Dubai and then on to New York. My skin felt really dry and tired, and I wanted to freshen up. But both packages of wipes I had dried out. So I was trapped in this window seat, and I couldn’t refresh my skin in the way I wanted. That was my lightbulb moment: I have to create something that, one, has the ingredients I like in it, but also, something that’s convenient that won’t dry out.”
Napier also said that as a Black woman, she wanted to come up with something that would work on our complex skin type, but also on the wide variety of skin types of all women.
“The great thing about it is, as you know, I’m also a black woman. I have very dry skin, which is not necessarily typical or the trend in our community. So I wanted to make a formula that would fit the needs of all skin types,” said Napier. “The main ingredient is water. While most makeup remover wipes have a lot of alcohol, alcohol strips the skin, which is counterproductive. My product is going to hydrate and nourish.”
That nourishment will come by way of the unique ingredients Napier put in her cloths.
“The other ingredients are aloe, cucumber, and chamomilla,” said Napier. “And the two star ingredients include the marshmallow root extract, which is found in South Africa. It’s very rich in vitamin C, and it’s going to help your skin to really glow. Also, it helps to reduce the bacteria that causes acne. And then the last ingredient is an oat kernel extract. It’s going to help your skin retain moisture, so instead of being oily, it’s going to pull moisture into your skin, so you have that very radiant and luminous skin without it being greasy.”
If you’re interested in trying these wipes, you can order them through Lauren Napier’s website and on Amazon. But if you just so happen to live in the New York tristate area (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New Jersey), you can go pick CLEANSE by LAUREN NAPIER up at the store!
As a woman still looking for the right remedy to quell my acne issues and keep my skin refreshed, I think these wipes will undoubtedly help. And no matter what skin issues you may or may not be dealing with, they can work for you too.
