In promotion for her new role as Roxie Hart in the Broadway musical Chicago and her new series on BET, Brandy Norwood stopped by “The Wendy Williams Show.” And y’all know how Wendy gets down. So in addition to discussing her new projects, she also asked Brandy about her broken engagement, specifically how her daughter Sy’rai handled the breakup.
Brandy’s been doing this media thing for a while so she handled it like a pro, answering honestly but not telling every ounce of her business.
“It wasn’t a good time and it was not a good time for [Sy’rai]. We were a family and when something like that happens you just don’t feel good. It’s not what I did. It’s what we both did. We just grew in different directions. But we’re still friends and we still have a lot of love for each other. There are no hard feelings.”
But that wasn’t enough for Wendy. So she probed further, asking Brandy if she kept her engagement ring.
Wendy: “You’re not the girl who keeps the ring are you?”
Brandy: Ummm…
Brandy asked Wendy to just move on, so they could continue speaking about her role as Roxie Hart.
But Wendy insisted.
Finally, Brandy said. “I don’t have the ring.”
Then, as if on cue, an audience member screamed out, “She pawned it!”
Brandy pursed her lips, snapped her fingers and said, “Gurrrrl” before holding her finger up to her lips, like keep it on the hush.
Afterward, Wendy said, we’re out of time because we were going to ask you about your messy brother.
Brandy just smiled innocently before she slayed the stage performing “Roxie (the Name on Everyone’s Lips).” And I do mean slayed. It was so good that Wendy was moved to tears. The girl is really in her lane with this role.
