Citizens of Baltimore rejoice! The Purple One, Prince Rodgers Nelson, has announced his plans to perform a concert in the city due to the recent unrest over the death of Freddie Gray.
The New York Times broke the news that Prince would be performing at a “Rally 4 Peace” concert this Sunday in Baltimore, at the Royal Farms Arena.
The statement said:
“In a spirit of healing, the event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S.,” Live Nation, the concert promoter, said in a statement. “As a symbolic message of our shared humanity and love for one another, attendees are invited to wear something gray in tribute to all those recently lost in the violence.”
Tickets for the event will go on sale Wednesday at 5 p.m. at LiveNation.com. Part of the proceeds will benefit Baltimore youth charities.
Attendees of the concert are being asked to wear gray.
Prince will also be performing with funk-rock group 3RDEYEGIRL.
You may have seen that Prince was also planning to release a song, titled “Baltimore” about the uprising in the city. Though the audio still hasn’t hit the internet, the lyrics have been released. You can check them out below.
