The National Retail Federation predicts that the average American will spend $172.63 on Mother’s Day gifts this year, the most in the 12-year history of the survey and $10 more than last year.
In total, children around the country will spend $21.2 billion on the holiday.
An NRF spokeswoman, Kathy Grannis, suspects that higher consumer confidence has got people spending more, with fewer people turning to unemployment benefits and monthly jobs numbers showing more people are getting hired.
Cards, flowers and clothing are top choices.
As for dad, Americans only dropped $113 on him last year. Perhaps everyone will be spending more this year on him as well?
