Parents of students at Encinal High School in Alameda are outraged and calling for a teacher to be fired after he allegedly instructed students to snap selfies with their parents’ sex toys or condoms, CBS News reports.
Moms Kimberly Cobene and Evangeline Garcia, whose children attend the high school, say that the counselor of an after-school program told the sophomores that they would receive extra credit if the scoped out the items in their parents’ private drawers and provided selfies as evidence of their conquests.
“It was to go into your parents’ private drawers or whatever to seek out sexual toys or condoms, or anything of that nature and to take a selfie with it,” Cobene said.
Administrators at the school suggested that the instructor’s comments may have been a joke, but some students took them seriously.
“From what I understand, a student actually did it and he used that as an example of what it should look like for the other students,” Cobene said.
Garcia adds that if the assignment was just a joke, the teacher would have put a stop to things once he realized that students were actually following through with his instructions.
“If the kids took it as a joke, then why did one kid take it serious and actually did the extra credit work, and was shown as an example in class?” Garcia said.
According to the concerned moms, the teacher is still currently teaching at the high school and administrators have been reluctant to answer questions regarding the investigation.
“We don’t feel comfortable with our children in his presence. All they could tell us is that, ‘Oh, this is an HR issue. It’s being investigated.’ They are not at liberty to tell me anything other than that. It’s kinda been the runaround,” Garcia said.
When asked by reporters if the instructor had been suspended, Susan Davis of the Alameda Unified School District replied:
“I can’t give you details about that because it’s an ongoing investigation.”
So bizarre.
