So there’s a Sister Act remake in the works and I just don’t know, y’all.
I love Sister Mary Clarence just as much as the next person, but I can’t help but wonder why movie producers continue to risk ruining classic films with all of these damn remakes.
Anyway, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney is in preproduction for a new installment of the popular ‘90s comedy. The script will be written by Kristen “Kiwi” Smith and Karren McCullah. Production will be spearheaded by Cinderella producer Allison Shearmur.
So far, there has been no word regarding whether or not the film’s original star Whoopi Goldberg will return to make an appearance in the film, and plot details are being kept under wraps at this point.
The original film followed Deloris Van Cartier, a nightclub singer who is placed in a San Francisco convent through a witness protection program after she witnesses a mob crime. During her stay, she teaches the nuns at the convent and Catholic school students to sing gospel music.
There’s definitely a chance that the remake will be a big hit, as the original film made $231 million at the box office, but the plot sort of seems like one that does not need revisiting.
We’d love to hear what Whoopi has to say about this.
