Anytime I hear 50 Cent’s “In Da Club,” I am immediately taken back to freshmen year of high school. To say that this was my jam would be a severe understatement. So of course, I was thrilled to hear that Elle Varner sampled the popular 2003 track on her new single, “Birthday,” which features the Queens rapper.
On the sultry track, which has been released just in time for summer, Elle teases her man, who just celebrated a birthday, about the extra special loving that she has in store for him. The 26-year-old let’s him know that from now on, she’ll be servicing him as if it’s his birthday, everyday.
She sings:
I know you love it, when I, spoil you, baby
So I’ma treat you like it’s your birthday every day
It’s your day, your day; you can have it your way
Then the next day, then the next day, then the next day after that
The song is pretty self-explanatory, but Elle tells Billboard:
“Imagine if your lover treated you like everyday was your birthday! We captured that fun and sexy vibe on this record. You can certainly add this one to your go-to collection of ‘Birthday’ classics.”
I’ll admit that I wasn’t too sure about the track at first, but by the second listen, I was hooked. I’ll be adding this one to my summer playlist. “Birthday” is the first single from Elle’s upcoming album, 4 Letter Word.
