Meet Stephen Colbert’s New Band Leader, Jon Batiste


Just a couple of days after posting a clip reminding us that he’s just as funny and wacky as ever (below), Stephen Colbert has released a clip introducing his new bandleader.

Jon Batiste is a 28-year-old New Orleans jazz musician and leader of the band Stay Human. Juilliard trained, his last album “Social Music” climbed to number one on the jazz charts. And he’s made appearances on Treme and in the film Red Hook Summer. He’s also collaborated with the greats — Prince and Lenny Kravitz among them.

 

But Today suspects it was Batiste’s appearance on Colbert last year that caught the eye of the execs at CBS.

OMG Stephen Colbert, how I have missed you. And if Batiste gets things hyped up like this, Colbert’s show will be excellent. The show debuts on September 8.
