Obviously not every man of the cloth takes a vow of poverty. Especially in light of the news that megachurch pastor/founder Creflo Dollar is going ahead with his controversial plan to buy $65 million private jet.

Not long ago Dollar caused outrage when he announced a crowdfunding effort to try and raise cash for his expensive jet. But then he trashed those plans, and most thought that also meant he was no longer going to purchase the jet. But according to a statement recently released by the board of World Changers Church International, the jet is “necessary,” reports The Christian Post.

“A long-range, high-speed, intercontinental jet aircraft is a tool that is necessary in order to fulfill the mission of the ministry. In light of an unfortunate accident that recently resulted in the ministry’s aircraft being declared a total loss, it is our intention to purchase another airplane at a time, place and price of our choosing,”said WCCI the statement.

The board also noted that this decision was not made by Dollar alone.

The jet in question is a nearly $70 million Gulfstream G650. “We plan to acquire a Gulfstream G650 because it is the best, and it is a reflection of the level of excellence at which this organization chooses to operate. We, the World Changers family, so value the lives, the safety and the well-being of our pastors and leaders that we wish to provide to them the best air travel experience possible,” said the board.

But the televangelist won’t get the jet anytime soon– Gulfstream has a backlog of orders through 2018, reports The Grio.
