Drexel University students received the shock of their lives when associate law professor Lisa McElroy sent a Porn Hub link straight to their email accounts. According to Inside Higher Ed, McElroy believed that she was sending pupils a “great article” instructing them on how to properly compose a legal brief. In actuality, she was sending them a video of a woman using anal beads.
As if the sheer horror that probably swept over McElroy wasn’t punishment enough for the blunder, she is now under investigation by the university.
“Drexel is required to initiate fact-finding for all reports of inappropriate behaviors of a sexual nature that may impact members of our community,” a Drexel spokesperson said in a statement Saturday. “As part of these policies and procedures, an employee may be put on administrative leave — which is not punitive — during the investigation.”
Some outlets have reported that McElroy has been suspended following the incident; however, the university would not confirm or deny suspension speculation. Most people whose occupations require them to be on computers use the copy and paste function several times throughout the day, so most have been sympathetic because this probably could have happened to anyone.
We’re pretty sure that McElroy is beyond embarrassed already—not to mention the fact that her Twitter mentions are in shambles—so we’re hoping she doesn’t lose her job over this.
McElroy received her law degree from Harvard School of Law and she regularly contributes to The New York Times’ Motherlode blog. She has also penned children’s books about Supreme Court justices.
Most who have heard the news feel that the school’s investigation is a complete overreaction. What do you think?
