For the first time in nearly 50 years, Tony Award-winning actors James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson will be reuniting on a Broadway stage for a new production of D.L. Coburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, The return of the 1977 production will be directed Leonard Foglia and will be produced OSTAR productions.

Weller Martin (James Earl Jones) and Fonsia Dorsey (Cicely Tyson) meet on the porch of their nursing home and strike up a friendship, with Weller teaching Fonsia how to play gin rummy.

As they play, they share stories about the lives they led in the outside world. But when Fonsia wins every hand, Weller becomes increasingly frustrated, until their gin games and conversations become a battleground, with each player exposing the other’s failures, disappointments and insecurities.

“The Gin Game” returns to the Golden Theater Tuesday, October 13, where the original production first debuted 38 years ago in 1977. In addition to snagging a Tony Award for her performance in “The Trip to Bountiful,” Tyson won three Emmy Awards for “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” and “The Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All.” Jones also has his share of accolades, including three Emmy Awards for “Heat Wave,” “Gabriel’s Fire,” and “Summer’s End.”
